‘Blinn is the perfect steppingstone for your goals’
Chelsea Wellmann served as president of the Blinn Business Society and is transferring to Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School in fall 2025

After the pandemic temporarily derailed Chelsea Wellmann’s high school career, she wasn’t sure college was in her future. Then she reached out to the Blinn College District.
“I grew up in College Station, so Blinn has always been right next door,” Wellmann said. “I had really given up on going to college and pursuing higher education, but then I applied to Blinn. The ease of the application process with the support I received from the staff made all the difference. They genuinely wanted me to succeed, and I think they do that for every student.”
Now 21, Wellmann is set to major in finance at the prestigious Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. She credits her success to determination, support from her professors, and an unexpected invitation.
“I actually started as an English major,” Wellmann said, “but after a friend from my American Government class invited me to a Blinn Business Society meeting, something clicked. I realized I was more interested in my business and math classes, and the club opened my eyes to the opportunities in business. That’s when I decided to change majors.”
After attending that first Business Society meeting, Wellmann quickly became an active member, eventually serving as president. In that role, she led a profit-sharing event that helped fund two student etiquette workshops.
“I learned leadership as president of the Business Society,” she said. “That experience confirmed that business is the right path for me. Getting involved on campus is so valuable, and I definitely plan to join the sales club at Mays Business School.”
Wellmann also developed valuable skills outside the classroom while working as a restaurant server.
“I would pull a 14-hour shift, sleep, wake up, and do it again. I feel like it’s the same way in business – you’re constantly working,” she said. “The business world and serving are both very relational. I like making relationships and sustaining them. I would really like to end up in business-to-business sales or maybe investment banking, but right now I’m exploring sales for my career.”
As she prepares to transfer to her dream school, Wellmann credits Blinn’s faculty and supportive environment with altering the trajectory of her educational journey.
“Blinn is the perfect steppingstone for your goals, and my experience with the faculty has been absolutely amazing,” she said. “It’s a close-knit community because of the relationships you’re able to form with your professors. For example, Professor Kim Gonzalez, the advisor for the Blinn Business Society, has turned into a mentor for me. I am so thankful for my education, and I would never take it for granted. No matter what walk of life you come from, Blinn’s Business Program elevates you to the next level.”
Looking ahead, Wellmann hopes to use her business experience to make a broader impact.
“Ultimately, I would like to transition into nonprofit work,” she said. “I’m already involved in local outreach programs, and I see nonprofits as very critical to the kind of social work we need in our society.”
Blinn’s Business Program prepares students for careers in management, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and other business-related fields. Many graduates transfer to top universities, including Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University, and Prairie View A&M University.
Through the RELLIS Academic Alliance, students can earn their Associate of Science in Business from Blinn and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, general business, finance, management, or marketing from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, all at Texas A&M-RELLIS in Bryan. In addition, students can earn their Associate of Applied Science in Business from Blinn and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M-Victoria through Blinn’s partnership with Texas A&M University-Victoria through the Clear Affordable Pathways to Success Program (CAPS).
