The Blinn College livestock judging team is off to a strong start this season with top-five finishes in its opening two contests.

Blinn recently competed in the Top Notch Intercollegiate Swine Judging contest in Paragould, Ark., and at the National Barrow Show in Austin, Minn.

Blinn’s sophomore livestock judging team placed second at the Top Notch contest and third at the National Barrow Show, where only three points separated the top three teams overall.

In the Top Notch contest, Kenna Schram was high individual, totaling 575 points, and was also first in reasons. Jenna Lindig was third (564 points) overall and second in reasons, Paige Zimprich was seventh (556) overall (17th in reasons) and Ryleigh Gilfoil was eighth (12th in reasons). Luke Domingue was fourth in reasons, Jhett West fifth, Carolyne Turner 15th, Paige Zimprich 17th, and Sage Schenk 18th.

At the National Barrow Show, Blinn placed second in reasons and placed third overall as a team. West was second-high individual with 625 points. Turner was third (623), Hayden Fowler was seventh (621), Lindig was 11th, Nathan Oakes was 12th, and Gilfoil was 20th.

Blinn’s freshman team was third overall at the Top Notch contest and placed first in reasons. Dade DeLozier was high individual, totaling 580 points, and was third in reasons. Colten Mullins was eighth-high individual and Klaire Deaton was 10th. Taylor Eckelberg was high in freshman reasons and Tatum Bales placed seventh.

The livestock judging team is part of Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program, which has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including the Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.
