Duo Multi-Factor Authentication
Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enhances security by requiring two forms of identity verification. The first factor is something you know-your password. The second is something you have, like the Duo mobile app.
MFA Implementation Schedule:
- Employees: MFA is mandatory for accessing web applications.
- Students: Beginning in Summer I 2024, MFA will be required for all registered students.
Enrollment Process:
- Students: After class registration, you will receive an email at your personal address with a link to enroll your mobile phone in Duo.
- Employees: Enrollment links are sent via email as part of the new employee onboarding process.
Duo Mobile App:
- You can prepare by downloading the Duo Mobile App on your phone ahead of time.
- Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- Provides a secure push notification during login for quick and easy authentication.
- The app does not permit Blinn College to access or manage the device it is installed on. It only logs the Blinn application accessed, login date and time, IP address, location (derived from the IP address), device type, and operating system version.
Alternative Authentication Method (Instead of Duo Mobile):
- Yubico Key: This USB device is registered to your account and plugs into your computer during the MFA process. Simply touching the device confirms user presence; it does not record fingerprints. The Yubiko Key supports USB-A and NFC connections and is compatible with FIDO/WebAuth Protocols. It is available for purchase here: Security Key NFC by Yubico.
