Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA)

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act provides funding for the Blinn College District to distribute emergency funds to eligible students.

These funds are part of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund and up to $1,200 may be awarded for childcare, food, healthcare, housing, tuition and fees, and other costs. Students who have a Pell eligible EFC (Expected Family Contribution) will receive a block grant of $1,200.

A total of $7,070,956 from CRRSA ACT has been allocated and approved for distribution. An
estimated enrollment in FY21 of 25,000 could be eligible. As of August 31, 2021, Blinn has
distributed $7,070,956 of CRRSAA funds to 6,081 eligible students for Emergency Financial Aid
Grants.

Disbursement amounts by quarter:

  • July 10, 2021: $7,070,956
  • Oct 10, 2021: $0
  • January 10, 2022: $0
  • April 10, 2022: $0

Students who have completed the FAFSA and are determined eligible to receive CRRSA Act funds will be notified by the Financial Aid Office via email and text message. To be eligible for CRRSA Act aid, students must be:

  • enrolled in at least six credit hours at Blinn during the Spring 2021 semester;
  • a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen;
  • have submitted a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2020-21;
  • and indicate on the CRRSA application that they have been financially impacted by COVID-19.

Federal funds are limited and applications are reviewed in the order they are received.

Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 until all funds are expended

Round 1

Students who meet the eligibility requirements and whose Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA is equal to or less than $5,500 automatically will be awarded $1200 for the Spring 2020 semester. This disbursement will take place without any action required on the part of the eligible student. Students will be emailed once the funds have been disbursed to their account. No additional action is required by the student.

Round 2

Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be identified and the application to apply for the CARES Act emergency aid and will have the application posted as a requirement on their 2020-21 financial aid checklist. As a reminder, the maximum award of CRRSA Act aid is $1,200 per eligible student.
