Applied Business Programs

The Blinn College District’s Applied Business Program provides a supportive learning environment through in-depth instruction and an innovative use of technology in the classroom. The curriculum is an applied and practical approach that prepares students for various careers in accounting, business, and management.

Courses prepare students for direct entry into the workforce and may be used to complete a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) program at a four-year university.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting provides an accounting curriculum for students whose interests lie in the area of accounting, but who do not plan to work toward a four-year degree. This is accomplished by providing courses designed to impart a general theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting, and allowing the student discretion in selecting additional accounting and related courses.

Because an associate degree typically takes two years to complete, the Accounting Technology Certificate allows students to enter the workforce more quickly or enhance job skills for current employment. All courses may be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science in Accounting degree.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration and Management prepares students to succeed as future managers and leaders within our local communities. The program supports students’ needs to acquire skills that will allow them to establish a career and/or become more productive in their current organizations and develops the professional skills necessary for immediate entry into the business workforce.

Because an associate degree typically takes two years to complete, Blinn's Small Business Management Certificate provides business management training in a shorter period of time with fewer general education core courses. The Small Business Management Certificate allows students to enter the workforce more quickly or enhance job skills for current employment, and allows existing business managers and owners to supplement experience and working knowledge. All courses may be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science in Small Business Management degree.

The Hospitality Management Certificate is designed to give students an overview of the many sectors of the hospitality industry. The courses are taught in both lecture and applied formats so that a student can gain real-world experience while in the program. The award introduces students to career opportunities in hotel and food and beverage operations and the travel, tourism, and meeting planning sectors.

The Business Management Occupational Skills Award provides students an introduction to the business field, and includes courses in accounting, management, and marketing. This award also may be beneficial to students in other programs whose professions may require a general understanding of the business management field to perform their overall job duties.

The Applied Business Program offers three Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees and three certificates:
