Withdrawal and Drop Refund Procedures

Drops and withdrawal from College can be made through myBLINN or in person and are official at the time that the Office of Admissions and Records is notified. Students will have their tuition and mandatory fees refunded 100% before the first class date. After that time, students who drop or withdraw from classes will have their tuition and mandatory fees refunded according to the following schedule.

For courses that meet on what the College considers a regular schedule, class days refer to the number of calendar days the institution normally meets for classes, not the days a particular course meets. For courses that meet on an unusual or irregular schedule, the College may exercise professional judgment in defining a class day. The indicated percentages are to be applied to the tuition and mandatory fees collected for each course from which the student is withdrawing.

Tuition and fees paid directly to the institution by a sponsor, donor, or scholarship shall be refunded to the source rather than directly to the student. If a student who has a scholarship withdraws before the end of the semester, the scholarship is revoked and the student may be required to repay the scholarship fund.

Non-Mandatory Fees

Students who withdraw prior to the first day of class will have all non-mandatory fees refunded. There is no refund for vehicle registration fees.

Room and Board Charges

The refund on room and board charges is proportional with no room refund after the eighth week. Please refer to the Residence Life Handbook for more information on the refund policy for room and board charges.

Nelnet Student Choice Refunds

When it comes to receiving financial aid refunds and other credit balances, the choice is yours! The Blinn College District has partnered with Nelnet Financial Solutions to provide an easy and convenient method for all students to receive any refunds they may be eligible for. Select how you would like to receive your refund.

Refund Options:

  • Direct Deposit to a bank account provided by the student (1-2 business days from processed date)
  • Deposit to a reloadable debit card provided by the student (1-2 business days from processed date)

You will need to create an account with Nelnet and then enroll in a refund method so that you will be prepared to receive any future refunds.

  • Log into the Student Portal via myBLINN.
  • From the “Student Applications” card, click the “Student Choice Refunds” link. This will direct you to the Nelnet site.
  • On your first visit, follow the prompts to Create an Account with Nelnet.
  • After creating an account, select “Manage Refunds” to Enroll in a Refund Method.
  • Fill in the necessary information.

Return of Title IV Funds

Students who have received (or who are eligible to receive) federal financial aid (grants or loans), and who withdraw from all their classes, or who do not earn a passing grade in any class for the semester, are subject to a recalculation of their awards based on the amount of aid earned. Any amounts of unearned federal financial aid received by the student will be returned by the college to the applicable federal student aid program(s) through a Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) calculation process. The return of these funds may result in the student owing a balance to Blinn , and/or the federal government. For more information about how this may affect financial aid recipients please view Blinn’s Return to Title IV policy online.

Military Service

If a student withdraws because he or she is called to active military service, the College District, at the student’s option, shall refund the tuition and fees paid by the student for the semester in which the student withdraws.
