Government Courses
American and Texas Government are components of the Texas Core Curriculum, where students will gain a foundation of knowledge in human cultures and the physical and natural world, develop principles of personal and social responsibility for living in a diverse world, and advance intellectual and practical skills that are essential for all learning. Blinn College does not currently offer a degree in this program.
American Government 2305 is a study of the organization, functions, and administration of the several branches and agencies of the national government, including a study of the federal constitution. The primary factors considered relate to the three branches of government -- judicial, executive, legislative -- major historical documents, the events that shaped the nation, and current events. Emphasis will be placed on the interaction of these subsystems.
Origin and development of the U.S. Constitution, structure and powers of the national government including the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, federalism, political participation, the national election process, public policy, civil liberties and civil rights.
Prerequisite(s): Students must be college ready according to TSI college-ready standards.

The primary factors considered relate to the three branches of government -- judicial, executive, legislative -- current Texas Constitution, events that shaped the state, and current events. Emphasis will be placed on the interaction of these subsystems.

Prerequisite(s): A student must be college ready in reading according to TSI college-ready standards.
(Urban Planning: Building Better Cities) An instructional program designed to integrate on-campus study with practical hands-on experience in government. In conjunction with class seminars, the individual student will set specific goals and objectives in the study of human social behavior and/or social institutions. Prerequisite(s): Completion of GOVT 2306 with a grade of B or better. A student must be college ready in reading, writing, and math according to TSI college-ready standards.
