Constitution Day
Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (also known just as Constitution Day) which commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787. In honor of Constitution Day, all educational institutions receiving federal funding are required to hold an educational program pertaining to the U.S. Constitution.
The Office of Student Leadership and Activities lead campus-wide Constitution Day activities across the Blinn College District. Staff and faculty work with many different student organizations and units on campus to develop a campus-wide approach to the celebration of our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the U.S. and to develop habits of citizenship in a new generation of Americans. Brenham Campus
Student Leadership and Activities Brenham will host a week of activities, beginning with a voter registration drive on Tuesday, September 13th. On Wednesday, September 14th, the College will give out free ice cream floats and hand out copies of the Constitution. The Thinking Thursday topic on Thursday, September 14th, will be voting, and on Friday, September 15th, Blinn will show St. Mary's University's video, "Constitution Day: Forming the United States" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK63SrPuzDw) in the Student Center atrium.
That month's Adulting 101 topic will be civic duty, and on September 11th, the Kruse Center will sponsor a Hero Run 9/11 Virtual 5K with participants wearing red, white, and blue. Throughout the week of Constitution Day, the Student Center will be decorated with flags and red, white, and blue bunting at the doors. Additionally, information will be posted on the doors and in the atrium regarding the Bill of Rights and how bills become laws.
RELLIS Campus
Student Leadership and Activities will host an amendment match activity on Constitution Day in which students match the amendment number with the correct description. Students who do so correctly will win prizes!
Schulenburg Campus
To celebrate Constitution Day, Coke floats will be available for students from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 13-14. The Enrollment Services desk will be decorated with United States flags and pocket Constitutions will be available for students.
Students also will be encouraged to register to vote, and a computer will be available to allow students to register online.
Sealy Campus
The Federal Government class will make posters for Constitution Day that will be posted on campus. Additionally, campus staff will set up a table and hand out pocket Constitutions.
