Grants

Grants are funds provided by the federal and state governments where students do not need to pay back. They are awarded on the basis of financial need. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for these grants.

Blinn’s annual allocation may be limited for some grants, therefore, all students are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and should apply as early as possible. Students are awarded only after all financial aid and admissions requirements are complete.

All grants are awarded with the expectation that the student will attend full-time (12 credit hours). The amount disbursed is prorated based on the student’s actual enrollment at the time of disbursement.

Enrollment Level Amount Disbursed
12 or more hours 100% of awarded amount
9-11 hours 75% of awarded amount
6-8 hours 50% of awarded amount

**An enrollment of six credit hours is required for all grants with the exception of the Pell Grant. Students must accept all grants (except for the Pell Grant) through their myBLINN portal or they will be canceled.

Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree, demonstrate financial need, and have not exceeded their lifetime Pell Grant award limit. The grant is based upon the Student Aid Index (SAI) as calculated by the Department of Education from information provided on the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Award eligibility and amounts vary based on the SAI and the student’s enrollment status.

The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant is available to undergraduate Pell Grant recipients with high financial need. Blinn’s allocation from the U.S. Department of Education is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. This grant does not require a separate application and is awarded through the standard process based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG) is a program administered by the State of Texas to provide assistance to students with financial need. Blinn’s allocation is limited and is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. This grant does not require a separate application and is awarded through the standard process based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or TASFA applications.

For more information, please refer to College for All Texans.

The Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) was established to provide grant money to enable well-prepared students to attend public community colleges, technical colleges, or public state colleges in Texas. To be eligible, the student must be a Texas resident, demonstrate financial need, be enrolled in at least a minimum of six hours in a certificate or associate degree plan at a two-year institution, and have an eligible Student Aid Index (SAI) as determined by the FAFSA. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board establishes SAI eligibility criteria annually.

Blinn College’s allocation is limited. TEOG funds for new students will be added to students who have already received a financial aid package. Students will be reviewed for TEOG eligibility based on the date their FAFSA was originally filed, financial need, Student Aid Index (SAI), the date all financial aid requirements were completed, and the date their original financial aid package was completed. This grant does not require a separate application and is awarded through the standard process based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

For more information, please refer to College for All Texans.

The Perkins Grant provides assistance to students who are Technical Education majors, including pre-Allied Health majors. Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis to students who meet eligibility requirements. Resources provided include assistance n the form of textbook lending, child care vouchers, and bus passes.

For more information, please refer to Blinn College’s Carl D. Perkins Basic Grant Office.
