Types of Financial Aid

Financial aid is federal, state, institutional, and private funding used to assist eligible students in paying for their education. Financial aid can be a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study.

All students must be meet Blinn’s Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and all other eligibility requirements to be awarded any type of federal or state financial aid.

Blinn College encourages all students to understand their responsibility in applying for and receiving financial aid of any type. Financial Aid made available through any school is to be used for the costs of attending college. These costs clearly consist of institutional charges such as tuition and fees, on-campus dorm and meal plan, but also include the living costs while attending college. The ethical standards of receiving financial aid for each student is to ensure that they are using their financial aid in accordance with federal and state regulations and for their intended purpose.

Financial Aid is available through state and federal programs to provide financial assistance to students in pursuing their educational and career goals. Use of financial aid resources for other than their intended uses constitutes fraud. Blinn College’s Financial Aid Office is committed to ensuring that all financial aid resources are used for their intended purposes. Staff who encounter a situation that appears to be fraudulent will contact either a Director or the Dean. The Directors and Dean will review the situation and all documentation.

This commitment requires our office to take two steps of action:

  • Any student that is reported to our office as potentially receiving financial aid fraudulently from the U.S. Department of Education will have all financial aid disbursements stopped. The student will not be eligible for financial aid of any type until we receive a reverse notification from the U.S. Department of Education.
  • If upon review the conflict cannot clearly be rectified or the information is determined to be fraudulent, the student will be reported to the U.S. Department of Education Office of the Inspector General as attempting to receive financial aid fraudulently. This will cause the student's financial aid to be permanently suspended at Blinn College until confirmation that the situation is not fraudulent directly from the U.S. Department of Education Office of the Inspector General directly.
