Program History
The Information Technology Program began as the Network Administration Program at Blinn College in the Fall of 1996. The program was originally housed at the "Post Office Annex" of Blinn College's Bryan campus. The program was relocated to the Townshire Building in January 1997 and relocated again to the Villa Maria site in August 2000.
A second full-time instructor was added to the program for the Fall 2000 semester. In December 2003, the program was the first at Blinn to receive the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Excellence Award. Some of the program courses were designated as Service Learning eligible in 2006.
In 2008, articulations were signed with Texas A&M University-College Station's College of Education, Human Development, and Technology Management programs; and with A&M Consolidated High School's Career & Technology Department. In 2011, an articulation was inked with Giddings High School. In 2012, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology (BAS-IT) at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in the School of Science and Computer Engineering (SCE) signed its articulation with CIT.
A majority of the program' graduates are employed by small and medium-sized companies. This requires a very broad knowledge of the network computing environment. One former student commented: "I used every course I took in the first six months after graduation."
